CO-FOUNDERS

The academy is co-founded by Batjin Boldbat, Oxmara Barrera, and Roel Gonzalez. Oxmara and Batjin met at Harvard Graduate School of Education as masters students in the Educational Leadership, Organizations, and Entrepreneurship program.

Batjin and Oxmara connected over a shared passion for helping children reach their full potential through education. Edutainment Alternative Academy was named after Batjin’s first school, TOMUJIN Alternative School, and Oxmara’s network of early learning centers, The Edutainment Zone. Roel Gonzalez, who has over 40 years of experience in education in the Rio Grande Valley has guided the charter school application process  and will serve as founding Superintendent for the approved school. Together, they hope to bring an innovative educational experience to students in Rio Grande City.

Oxmara Barrera is an Ed.M. candidate in the Educational Leadership, Organizations, and Entrepreneurship program at Harvard Graduate School of Education from Miguel Aleman, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Oxmara established The Edutainment Zone, an early learning center in 2021 at Rio Grande City, Texas. The Edutainment Zone offers a play-based holistic experience to children starting at six weeks. The Edutainment Zone has expanded operations across the Rio Grande Valley to Roma, La Grulla, Mission, and McAllen.

 

Oxmara is passionate about increasing access to high-quality and affordable childcare in Texas. Oxmara graduated from Texas A&M International University in 2017 with a masters in Multidisciplinary Studies in History, Spanish, and Liberal Arts. During her time at TAMIU she studied abroad at Universidad del Bio-Bio in Chile and City University of Hong Kong. After graduating, Oxmara hopes to continue her work in the Rio Grande Valley to increase the educational opportunities in the region.

TOMIJIN Alternative School

CO-FOUNDER

Batjin Boldbat is a seasoned educational leader and entrepreneur with a track record of building transformative K-12 schools from the ground up. He has founded and developed three full-scale K-12 schools in Mongolia. His schools have set a benchmark for quality education in the region, with a focus on accessibility and inclusivity.

 

In partnership with government agencies, Batjin developed and scaled Mongolia’s first blended, flipped, and project-based learning (PBL) curriculum, which is now utilized by over 500,000 students across the country.

His innovative curriculum and leadership approach have reshaped how education is delivered in Mongolia, making high-quality, personalized learning accessible to students from diverse backgrounds.

 

Batjin’s educational philosophy emphasizes contextual learning—adapting curricula and instructional models to meet the unique needs of students, families, and communities. Committed to educational equity, he aims to redefine educational experiences worldwide, leveraging AI to help each student unlock their full potential.
